If you are a business owner in Georgia, you have the weighty responsibility of protecting your patrons and securing your businesses' assets. ANSI Door Lock Grades Explained

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) grading system was developed years ago to standardize a testing procedure to measure the durability and strength of a door lock. This grading system applies to both residential and commercial door locks. Composed of three different grades, the ANSI grading system gives homeowners and business owners a good idea of lock quality and reliability. ANSI examines six different qualities to determine a lock's grade:

  • Strength Cycles - How many uses a lock can withstand before a replacement lock is needed)
  • Operational - This refers to a door's ability to latch when it is closed
  • Security - The effectiveness of the lock's security
  • Material - What kind of material is the lock made of?
  • Finish - Satin, nickel-plated, bronze, etc.

Grade 1 Locks

These locks offer the highest level of security and are most often used by institutions like hospitals, schools, and even museums. These locks also have the highest life expectancy, though they can be much more complex and require an expert residential or commercial locksmith in cityname to install. In today's day and age, many more homeowners are opting for Grade 1 locks (like electronic locks) for the most peace of mind. This classification of lock must hold up against 800,000 cycles, six door strikes and a 360-pound weight test.

Grade 2 Locks

These locks are great for residential areas with more foot traffic, like a door that leads to an apartment complex or suite of rooms. These locks can also suffice for small businesses that need a higher level of security than Grade 3 locks. Use these locks when you want to secure access to areas with valuable equipment or sensitive documents. This classification of lock requires 400,000 cycles, four door strikes, and a 250-pound weight test.

Grade 3 Locks

This grade of lock is best suited for residential purposes and is considered standard door hardware. This kind of lock is the least expensive and should never be used in a high-traffic area like a lobby or storefront. However, these locks would be suitable for areas without much foot traffic like storage closets or areas without expensive merchandise. Because these locks are easiest to bypass, consider upgrading your Grade 3 locks with anti-bump and anti-pick technology. This classification of lock requires 200,000 lock cycles, two door strikes, and a 150-pound weight test.

By Jake Tapper, Jason Morris and Sara Murray | CNN

Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson on Wednesday testified before a Georgia special grand jury investigating efforts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, according to a statement from her attorneys.

“Ms. Hutchinson was pleased to cooperate with the Fulton County Special Purpose Grand Jury and answer questions today with respect to its inquiry into events surrounding the 2020 election,” her attorneys said in the statement.

Earlier Wednesday, CNN saw Fulton County sheriff’s deputies open the gate at the courthouse garage where many grand jury witnesses have arrived and greet two black SUVs with Hutchinson and others as they pulled into a secure area.

CNN reported earlier this week that Hutchinson, a former aide for Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, was scheduled to appear before the Fulton County grand jury in district attorney Fani Willis’ investigation into 2020 election interference.

Hutchinson has previously cooperated with the House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, and Justice Department investigations, and CNN reported last month that Willis had secured her cooperation in the district attorney’s investigation.

Hutchinson, CNN previously reported, could offer Georgia prosecutors insights about what she witnessed in the West Wing, as well as specific steps her former boss took related to Georgia. In public testimony before the January 6 committee this summer, she revealed how Trump and his inner circle were warned about the potential for violence on that day and how the former president wanted to join the throngs of his supporters at the Capitol.

The Georgia probe — set off by an hour-long January 2021 phone call from Trump to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asking him to “find” the votes necessary for Trump to win the Peach State — has steadily expanded with time.

Mike White knows it will be a bit strange going back to the Southeastern Conference school where he coached the last seven seasons.

The Georgia coach is doing his best to stay locked in as the Bulldogs prepare to face Florida on Saturday.

“It’s a unique game,” White said Friday in Athens. “I’m excited about getting down there and seeing some loved ones, some family, some friends. It’ll be weird. It’ll be like the twilight zone really at times, I’m sure.”

Last March, with discontent growing in the Florida fan base, White left the Gators for their biggest SEC rival.

White had some early success stepping into the enormous footprints left by Billy Donovan, including a run to the regional final in 2017, but Florida’s performance tailed off toward the end of his tenure.

Finally, after the Gators missed out on the NCAA Tournament in 2022, White bolted for the Bulldogs, who languished at the bottom of the league during Tom Crean’s dismal tenure.

Of course, moving to Georgia meant having to face Florida on an annual basis.

White said he’ll “be locked in” as soon as the game begins.

Until then, it surely will be different than most games.

“I’m sure before and after shootaround, there will be some distractions that we’ll just have to overcome,” he said. “When it’s tipped, it’s down to business in terms of us trying to be the best that we can be.”

Georgia (11-3, 1-0) is coming off one of its biggest wins in years, knocking off No. 22 Auburn 76-64 in its conference opener.

The Bulldogs already have matched their SEC victory total from Crean’s final season, when Georgia went 6-26 with a 1-17 mark in the league to seal the coaching change.

“We’re trying to build something here,” said White, who took over a program that’s made only two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 14 seasons. ”We had a really big win the other day. It’s over. We’ve got 17 more. What are we going to do?”

White’s current players aren’t too concerned about where he was before.

They’re focused on what’s to come.

“It’s gonna be a big game,” Georgia center Frank Anselem said. “We’ve just go to stay level-headed and accept the challenge, just use this as a stepping stone and momentum for the rest of the season.”

Florida (7-7, 0-2) is off to a sluggish start under its new coach, Todd Golden. The Gators are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and not get caught up in any chatter about White’s return.

“You don’t want to make too much of a big deal out of it where that’s what we’re thinking about,” Golden said. “Obviously, there might a little extra motivation for some of our guys, but it definitely won’t be a point of emphasis from my perspective.”

White didn’t want to reflect on his up-and-down tenure at Florida, not when he’s about to face the Gators.

“I’m just locked in on this Florida team and our current team,” he said. “I can tell you this: I really appreciated my time there, our opportunities there. My family and I loved it there. It’s an amazing place. Gainesville is an amazing place.

“Not many people are as blessed as I’ve been to coach at two amazing places like this.”

WOOBINE - Bob DeCamp parked his 18-wheeler at a truck stop beside Interstate 95 Tuesday night so he could take a ride on two skinny tires Wednesday morning.

DeCamp rode from the Sunshine Truck Stop into Woodbine and then north on U.S. 17 so he could ride a 3.5-mile section of the Georgia Coast Rail-Trail.

"It's a great start,'' the Douglas resident said. "I'm in favor of rail trails. You can get your exercise and stay off the road.''

The trail will officially open at 10 a.m. Saturday with a ceremony at the White Oak post office north of Woodbine. It's about midway on the trail that is surfaced with hard-packed crushed concrete from the Interstate 95 widening project.

DeCamp said he favors paved surfaces and hopes the rail-trail will someday get at least a thin coat of asphalt like many others he rides. The surface is packed so tightly, however, that he didn't hit a single soft spot, the bane of narrow-tired road bikes, DeCamp said.

The Georgia Coast Rail-Trail was surfaced jointly by the Atlanta-based PATH Foundation, Coastal Georgia Rails to Trails Inc. and Camden County. When finished, the trail will be 68 miles long and will follow the CSX Transportation railroad bed from Riceboro to Kingsland. The roadbed runs across marshes, swamps, through forests and crosses 43 rivers and creeks in Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn and Camden counties.

The original intent was to pave the whole trail, said Leslie Lampkin, spokeswoman for Coastal Georgia Rails to Trails, but it was decided the job would be completed much quicker with a less-expensive surface.

"Concrete would have been $50 million for the whole trail. The crushed concrete will cost $15 million,'' Lampkin said.

Picking the first section for paving was also an easy decision, she said.

"Camden County owned that section of roadbed,'' she said.

Asked where the trail will go next, Lampkin said, "We're in the process of deciding. It could be an extension north or south in Camden County."

Regardless of where it goes, it is likely to draw people like DeCamp who said he finds a place to ride every day. He has ridden the Silver Comet, a PATH Foundation trail in Atlanta, and others in Florida when he's on the road for Wal-Mart as he was this week.

Now 61, DeCamp said he started riding 15 years ago, when "I was on the verge of a heart attack. I couldn't do anything without having chest pains and getting short of breath."

In good health now, he drives his truck with his Trek bicycle riding in the passenger seat and pulls it out for rides. In fact, his love of riding inspired DeCamp to speak out at a public hearing on the routing of the U.S. 441 widening project north of Douglas.

"I told them I didn't care where they put it as long as it had a bike lane,'' he said.

Those who want to try their bicycles or feet are welcome at Saturday's dedication.

There will be free trail mix and bottled water and children 5 to 12 can enter the National Trails Day coloring contest. Winners will have a chance to win an outdoor prize pack from The North Face and have their work featured in National Hiker magazine. Monkeywrench Bicycles of St. Simons Island and Camden Bicycle Center of St. Marys will lend bicycles to those who can't bring their own.

Release:

PCOM South Georgia’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 2025 received their white coats at a ceremony held in Moultrie on Friday, October 8.

The first-year medical students, who make up the most diverse and local class in the College’s short history, were coated by their professors—a tradition that symbolizes the transition from student to physician.

Students in the DO Class of 2025 applied to medical school in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, interviewed virtually and eventually attended a College that most had not yet visited in person. Destiny Sciuva (DO ‘25), class chair, highlighted that tenacity during her speech to fellow students.

Student Doctor Sciuva said, “We are the ones who run into the fire. We began applying to medical school in the beginning of a global pandemic, and with many opportunities to turn around in the face of loss, doubt, and devastation, we showed up. We faced all of this head-on, and rather than let it come in the way of our dreams of becoming physicians, we allowed it to further compel us to embark on this journey. We’re consistent and we’re persistent. We’re passionate and we’re compassionate. And most importantly, we’re together, everyday before the sun rises until long after it sets. We are there for each other. We’re hungry for change, forknowledge, justice, equality, equity, inclusion and we’re determined to get everything on that list.”

Jay Feldstein, DO ‘81, PCOM President and CEO, addressed the students saying, “For the physician, the white coat is synonymous with the virtues of altruism, responsibility, and compassion. It reminds physicians of their duty—to lead their lives and practice their art with humanism and professionalism. Wearing your white coat comes with a sense of hope. You are the future of medicine. Your purpose must always be to care for your patients, to treat them in the holistic manner that will be the heart of your education.”

Before the students received their coats, Marla Golden, DO ’88, FACEP, Associate Dean of Clinical Education, PCOM Georgia and PCOM South Georgia and Chair of Clinical Education, PCOM South Georgia, encouraged them to truly reflect on the momentous occasion. She said, “These coats represent the work you will do using all the tools in your pockets and all the knowledge in your brains to perform the acts of kindness, love and service that our profession requires. Respect them for everything they are and everything they symbolize.”

The White Coat Ceremony is an annual event in which first-year medical students receive their white coats. These coats are worn in a number of settings throughout medical school including standardized patient interactions, primary care skills labs, osteopathic manipulative medicine labs and eventually third- and fourth-year clerkship rotations.

About PCOM South Georgia:

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) extended its commitment to the Southeast by establishing PCOM South Georgia, an additional teaching location in Moultrie, Georgia. PCOM South Georgia offers both a full, four-year medical program leading to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree and a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree. PCOM is a private, not-for-profitinstitution which trains professionals in the health and behavioral sciences fields. Joining PCOM Georgia in Suwanee in helping to meet the healthcare needs of the state, PCOM South Georgia focuses on educating physicians for the South Georgia region. The medical campus, which welcomed its inaugural class of medical students in August 2019, has received accreditation from the American OsteopathicAssociation’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.
